The first time I remember meditating was during the first week of attending college, where they offered a seminar on mindfulness. I remember many of the specific words the instructor used to guide us to presence, and they still come into my mind now, 15 years later, whenever I need to ground myself back into the moment.
Yoga became a prominent part of my life when I was seeking relief from an injury during a long-distance backpacking trip. That injury led me to explore yoga as a way to heal, and over time, the practice evolved into a balanced approach that supports me completely—regardless of what the day may hold.
My yoga journey has taken many forms. I’ve practiced the Ashtanga method, sweated through countless hot power sessions, balanced the more dynamic styles with restorative and yin yoga, chanted the Yoga Sutras, studied ancient philosophical teachings, and spent hours in stillness on my meditation cushion.
The vast majority of my practice began via books and online teachings, and today is supported by a community of practitioners and teachers with vast backgrounds. I respect and understand the need for different teaching methods to suit various learning styles.
I personally believe that all aspects/styles of yoga are valuable (given they are rooted in the philosophical principles of the practice), and each person’s unique journey determines what they need more—or less—of at any given time.
Yoga has helped me to manage my own mental health struggles (anxiety, depression), cultivate mindfulness, and connect to a deeper sense of inner peace. It has also built my strength, restored flexibility where there was once stiffness, and supported my recovery after the outdoor activities and sports that I love.
In 2020, I felt called to begin sharing what I’ve learned, and Sharing Calm was born. Yoga has been a lifelong companion, supporting me through all of life’s ups and downs. My hope is that it can do the same for you.
Whether you’re seeking mental clarity, emotional balance, physical strength, relief from pain, or a sense of peace amidst the chaos of the world, I’m here to share the tradition of yoga with you. It’s a lifelong practice, and I’m honored to support you on your path.
With gratitude,
Sydney

“Sydney's slow flow class if truly unique in her approach to her practice and how she shares it with the class. Her choice of music sets the ambiance for the class. It is relaxing and supports the nature of how she integrates the metaphysical aspects of yoga with the physical. She starts each class with a meditation that may include intention, affirmation, integration of chakras, or the elements. Many times, this will set the practice focus for the month. The flows and choices of yoga movements reflect these goals so that it is always fresh and unique. She provides many ways to do a pose and use of supports like blocks. Her enthusiasm and genuine love of yoga shines through in each class.“
— Garalynn T.
“The Slow Flow class with Sydney is just what I need to keep myself engaged in my yoga practice. Sydney's instructions are not only clear and concise but she also presents a great flow to the many different yoga poses. She is willing ti provide individual instruction if needed and also allows yogi's to attempt poses that may challenge them a step further. Great instructor!“
